PIP (Product Innovation Process)

The Vital Spark

PIP Product Innovation Process

The Problem:

The trend to offer your customers a broad variety of choices at attractive prices is growing stronger. At the same time, it becomes more difficult to master the complexities of product variety and diversity. In this situation, modular products are of critical importance for your competitiveness.

LOGICON's Product Innovation Process (PIP)

PIP has been developed specifically for small and medium enterprises (SME) of all trades and industries. It looks at the product throughout the entire supply chain and aims at designing modular building-blocks. In addition we devise changes in the supply chain in order to cut costs. Our method is supported by various software tools. Depending on the complexity of the product (product line, module, component), reorganization by PIP takes from 3 to 9 months and is split into 6 phases.

Today, complex products in wide variations are found in all areas. Because PIP is based on a proven method, it is capable of dealing with different complexities in different industries. PIP is used in the manufacturing of cellular phones as well as in the manufacturing of very complex modules in the automotive, railroad or machine-building industries. Not only may SMEs learn from the systemic approach of the big players, in order to survive they have no choice!

Reducing product variants often meets with resistance from the sales department. Practical experience, however, shows that standardization and modulization can actually increase the number of variants, while cutting production costs to up to 30 percent.

The modulization of products and the customer orientation that comes with it is the key to success, since identical parts save costs.
